Mary Sue Laffere
Librarian

All four of my children have attended school at St. Philip's as far as grade level would permit.  Our two younger children were fortunate in that they were able to attend as far as the sixth grade.  These were great years for all of us. Life long Christian based friendships were formed along with a sense of self-confidence and an educational foundation that has served my children well.  But, the most important aspect of attending school here was the freedom of a Christian view on academic subjects and an atmospher of love for each and every student.  When problems arose, the teachers and staff dealt with them using Biblical principles, which would not have been allowed elsewhere.

I have been married 32 years to Don Laffere, who is a Real Estate Broker.  We have four children who live and work in the New Braunfels area.  Our youngest, Emily, is a student at Texas State University.  My husband and I were born and raised in Uvalde.  We enjoy the out doors and love working in our yard.

I began teaching in Batesville, Texas.  I taught both third and fourth grades in one room for two years.  I had only an AA degree, but was able to get an emergency teaching certificate.  After two years, I became and aide for the Development Education Enrichment Program.  I held that position for six years.  I started working at St. Philip's in 1996 as the Reading teacher.  Over the years my role has changed various times from Aide for Pre-Kinder, to First, Second and Third grades.  I have been the Librarian since 2006.  This current school year, my mornings are spent as the Pre-Kinder Aide and my afternoons as Librarian.  After school hours, I am in charge of our After-Care program.

Teaching is, I believe, a gift from God.  The teachers who work here teach because they have a real love for it and for the children they are entrusted with.  A well-rounded education, in my opinion, should be comprised of getting a good foundation both educationally and spiritually.
